Garden of the Gods, Cave-In-Rock
It was an outstanding day for mid-November, mixed Bright Sun and Partly Cloudy, cool temperatures topping out around 50 degrees. Leaving the West Side Lowes in Evansville, Indiana we traveled west into Illinois and stopped for Lunch in Eldorado at a fantastic home-town Barbecue Restaurant. Our thanks to George Woods, my friend and Dean of Workforce Education at John A. Logan College for his input on the restaurant. After lunch, Harold was the only brave sole to put his top down on the drive down to Garden of the Gods. We hiked trails and climbed rocks for a couple of hours and then hit the road again for the drive to Cave In Rock state park on the Ohio River. After spelunking for about 45 minutes we headed back north, crossed the Ohio River at Shawneetown, and returned to Evansville on several 2-lane county roads and highways in Kentucky. Once in Evansville about half of the group stopped for Music and more good food at the Deerhead Restaurant. 185 Miles total trip.
