We met for Lunch at the Mayflower Chineese Buffet on First Ave in
Evansville and then took a very slow drive down into the bottoms area
along the Ohio River. We passed many river camps and drove several
miles before being forced to turn around where the road turned to
gravel. Returning north along the river we made it to Dogtown where we
turned west and drove to West Franklin for a short pit stop at a family
river camp. Winding our way north-west past the power plant we joined
Highway 62 and drove to Mt. Vernon where we stopped at the DQ for
refreshments. The final leg of the drive took us north from Mt. Vernon,
thru the country returning to the Evansville area and ending the drive
at the park located at the entrance to the 4H grounds. We were never
more than 20 air-miles from our starting point, but we traveled about
100 miles total for this drive.

A Beautiful day for a drive. It was sunny, and a little cool, but we
braved the weather and drove Top-Down on the trip from Evansville to
Bloomington, Indiana and the Oliver Winery. There were several
surprises on the trip including a wonderful state recreation area next
to a beautiful water fall over the Williams Dam on the White River.
Eagle-Eye Parker (our very own leader - Tom) spotted a restored Chevy
truck and hailed him over for a mini-car show in the parking lot of the
Dam. The roads picked for this trip provided a great driving experience
with lots of twists, curves and hills, and even an old-fashioned
covered bridge to drive over. Wine tasting and a tour of the winery
followed when we arrived in Bloomington, and a stop for Mexican food on
the trip back completed a perfect day.!
